I went cliche and tried sketching a brute made out of diamonds. My first try at it, diamonds are weird.

For the weekly art challenge 64 - creating a character based on “Diamond”

I was an avid stone collector, when I was younger. When I finally got a diamond in my collection, the experience was not as grand as I expected: It was a raw diamond, uncut, greenish, very unlike the clip art-paint-diamond i used to paste all over my collection. 

Diamonds are cruel stones, even when cut they’re just as pretty as the light arround them allows them to be.

This is my first WAC submission and alas is only the draft of what I intended to submit. Circumstances prevented me finding the time to turn this biro scribble into a more professional looking digital piece. However I wanted to send in this little guy regardless as I like his moodiness! Reminds me of Dragon Ball Z somehow.

So, diamonds…doing a guy made out of crystals seemed like fun.  Crystals are tricky, but they’re pretty and shiny.

I have to think of how Diamonds are made of the same stuff as pencils - carbon - ain’t that awesome?!? So, although it wasn’t asked in this round, I made a little character evolution, again. I have so much fun inking in Paint Tool Sai.

Fun trivia: hairdo and dress of Forever are inspired by a photoset of Shirley Bassey. The name explains itself, I think ;-)

I played with the idea that the character was cursed for obtaining a forbidden jewel. Originally, I had been working on this illustration on Livestream… but I accidentally turned off my computer trying to kill a stink bug. Yup. Heh.

Tho I’m not sure if she looks like diamond-ish, I just wanted to try this challenge and also my first submission.  At the same time it is also goes with my school project. I might as well use this as one of my characters X)

Weekly Art Challenge #64: (April 1st ~ April 7th)

Create a character using the idea of diamonds!

Well, it’s April now! And the birthstone of April is… the diamond! [Don’t worry, this isn’t some clever April Fools joke… I’m not *that* good, hehe.] So yes, this week’s challenge is to get inspired by a diamond, and create a character around it!

Some definitions of diamonds;

From Wikipedia - In mineralogy, diamond (from the ancient Greek αδάμας – adámas ”unbreakable”) [sic] … Diamond is the hardest known natural material on the Mohs scale of mineral hardness, where hardness is defined as resistance to scratching and is graded between 1[soft]~10[hard]. Diamond has a hardness of 10 (hardest) on this scale.

From the American Gemstone Society -  Fancy-color diamonds are natural, rare and truly exotic gem of the earth.  Diamonds in hues of yellow, red, pink, blue, and green range in intensity from faint to vivid and generally the more saturated the color, the higher the value.

Some things to note:

• Take what you know about diamonds and craft a character! The person doesn’t have to be made *of* diamonds, but take some of it’s properties to craft a character!
• Any media is allowed. Heck, if you wanted to do traditional media and throw a couple of swarovski crystals on the canvas - be my guest!
• I always promote being productive, but please limit your submissions to two illustrations for this challenge.

Challenges submitted are valid up to 11:59PM on SUNDAY!
